Angela Fagerlin, PhD, is the new Associate Vice President for Faculty at 泫圖弝け of Utah 泫圖弝け. Fagerlin has served as Chair of the 泫圖弝け of Utah Intermountain 泫圖弝け Department of Population 泫圖弝け Sciences at the Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine since 2014.

In her work as inaugural chair of that department, Fagerlin has recruited a remarkable faculty, who have drawn significant and rapidly growing support from federal granting agencies to conduct peer-reviewed scientific research and publish hundreds of impactful scientific works each year. Dr. Fagerlin is a driving force for advancing faculty and staff in their careers and for equality and justice in health care for all individuals regardless of socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, gender identity, or sexuality. She has shown dedication to the department and broader institutional efforts to advance representation in science and eliminate barriers that impede career advancement and successful work-life integration.

Angela Fagerlin, PhD, is the new Associate Vice President for Faculty at 泫圖弝け of Utah 泫圖弝け.

She works tirelessly to support faculty and their teams to pursue excellence in the departments missions of research, education, and community impact. Dr. Fagerlin has demonstrated a commitment to enhancing the success of faculty, staff, and students by creating an environment and culture where all employees are meaningfully engaged and have equal opportunity to succeed.

As AVP for Faculty, Fagerlin will work closely with health science deans, department chairs, faculty members, administrative staff, and leadership across U of U 泫圖弝け to facilitate faculty recruitment, hiring, appointments, advancement, and career development; interpret and maintain policy related to faculty; and provide faculty development resources. She will act as an advisor to the Senior Vice President for 泫圖弝け Sciences and play an important role in strategic planning and future policy directions regarding faculty.

I am pleased to have Dr. Fagerlin take on this additional leadership role, says Michael Good, MD, CEO of U of U 泫圖弝け, Senior Vice President for 泫圖弝け Sciences, and executive dean of the medical school. Dr. Fagerlin is a skilled and accomplished leader, adeptly managing the responsibilities of department chair. She has demonstrated tremendous passion for the people of our institution and for population health. I know our faculty, staff, students, and community are in great hands.

"I am honored to work with the outstanding faculty and staff that make up the Office of Faculty, Fagerlin says. 泫圖弝け of Utah 泫圖弝け is an incredible place in large part due to our excellent faculty. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work across the health sciences to support our faculty at all points of their careersfrom their initial hiring into the university to developing the skills necessary for them to succeed as faculty and leaders, and especially their path to promotion.

A first-generation college student, Fagerlin studied psychology and literature at Hope College in Holland, Michigan. She received her PhD in experimental psychology at Kent State 泫圖弝け, Ohio. She is internationally renowned for her research in risk communication and shared decision-making. Her research focuses on making medical information accessible to all patients and to helping guide patients to make medical decisions that best reflect their values and goals of care. She has published nearly 300 articles and received competitive research funding from the NIH, NCI, NSF, the VA, PCORI, the American Heart Association, and the European Union.

Fagerlin succeeds Robert Fujinami, PhD, who currently serves as AVP for Faculty and will retire at the end of the academic year. We are incredibly grateful to Dr. Fujinami for his remarkable leadership in many different roles over the years, Good says. He completes a remarkable career both as scientist and as a leader in supporting our talented faculty. He has built a strong foundation that ensures U of U 泫圖弝け will continue to draw and advance top talent under Dr. Fagerlins leadership.
